Armistead C. Gordon correspondence with James M. Page [manuscript], 1906 Apr 10, Apr 14.

Gordon suggests that he and Page go to Hot Springs "on behalf of the Board and of the Faculty to tender Mr. Carnegie an invitation to be the guest of the University on Jefferson Day, 19th inst." Page replies that "Dr. Alderman fully appreciated your motive in suggesting the visit to Mr. Carnegie and, except for the fact that he was in touch with Mr. Carnegie, and knew of circumstances of which you and I were not aware, he would have heartily approved the idea."
